You may have missed it amid the impeachment hysteria in the end of December, but angry Iranians were protesting the repressive regime, demanding the resignation of their Supreme Leader (because what educated-freedom people wouldn’t rise up against any leader who called himself as much?) long before Trump entered the picture.
Now that the Iranian regime has admitted to downing a Ukrainian passenger jet carrying dozens of their own countrymen, the protesters are louder than ever.
Over the weekend, enraged protesters flooded the streets of Tehran to demand that Ayatollah Khamenei step down after the government revealed that they had shot the aircraft, mistakenly they claimed, just after firing several missiles on bases in Iraq that are hosting American and coalition forces.
The Blaze notes that “For days, the Iranian government claimed the plane crashed due to mechanical error. However, American intelligence disputed the claims, forcing the Iranian government to admit that it shot down the Ukrainian flight.”
All 176 people on board were killed, and the message that the regime has blood on its hands was heard loud and clear from the protesters.
The Blaze notes that “The protests reportedly began as vigils for the victims of PS752, but quickly descended into anti-government demonstrations.”
In videos posted to social media, chants of “death to liars,” “death to the Islamic Republic,” “Soleimani was a murderer, his leader is also a murderer,” and others can be heard.
“Soleimani was a murderer, his Leader is also a murderer!”

Protests continue in Tehran. Protesters are chanting many of the same slogans from #IranProtests of November 2019
They're chanting: "The regime told us our enemy is the US. But actually, our enemy is right here" [in reference to the regime itself]. pic.twitter.com/OjoMw2PMI2

The voice of the Iranian people is clear. They are fed up with the regime’s lies, corruption, ineptitude, and brutality of the IRGC under @khamenei_ir's kleptocracy. We stand with the Iranian people who deserve a better future. pic.twitter.com/tBOjv9XsIG

The man on whom American Democrats place the blame for the Iranian government shooting down a passenger jet carrying dozens of its own people, Donald J. Trump, who has not yet retaliated to the missile strike on US troops as of this writing and who has signaled a desire for peace with the Iranian regime, tweeted out his support for these passionate protesters.

In a tweet that has since become the most re-tweeted post ever in the language, POTUS wrote, in Farsi, “To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I’ve stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage.”
