Yes! How the Trump Administration Is Funding Abstinence Education and Defunding Obama-era Sex Ed

Sex education is a mess in our country. Children are systematically exposed to highly inappropriate sexual content that has nothing to do with health or safety, and as STD and teen pregnancy rates show no improvement and even worsen as these programs become widespread.

For years, liberals have been mocking abstinence-only education and saying that it doesn’t work, but their alternative is clearly far more ineffective. Who would have ever thought that telling kids it’s OK to have sex would make them have sex? Shocking.

So we were thrilled to hear from Church Militant that the Trump administration will soon be putting $10 million into federal programs promoting abstinence in teen sex ed programs!

Not only that, but they will also be taking away $200 million from Obama-era sex education program that focused largely on abortion, artificial contraception, and normalizing LGBT sex.

Valerie Huber, a national abstinence education advocate and recent appointee to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHS), told Focus on the Family that the new programs that will be implemented, called “sexual risk avoidance” or (SRA) help young people make calculated, informed decisions about sex rather than avoid the topic entirely, as some might think.

“They contextualize a whole battery of different topics that surround a young person’s decision whether to have sex or not,” she explains. “Rather than someone telling a young person, ‘Do this, don’t do that,’ it’s casting a vision for a young person’s future.”

This is exactly what we need in sex education, explaining why abstinence works so teenagers and young people have an informed, realistic grasp on the weighty significance of sexual activity.

Where liberal sex education programs clearly work to make sex seem like a normal, healthy, expression of affection between anyone that shouldn’t be stigmatized, we need to bring these stigmas back and let teenagers know why abstinence is so effective.

One of the many wonderful things about the Bible is how practical, rather than restrictive, God’s law is. By restricting sex to marriage, you eliminate the chances of STDs or single motherhood. Reproduction is the primary biological function of sex, and the institution of marriage exists in largely in part to give security and stability to babies and children.

Premarital sex, especially casual premarital sex, on the other hand, has a whole host of potential problems. STDs, unwanted pregnancy, abuse, emotional damage, and, in our culture, often the loss of a life in abortion.

We are thrilled to see abstinence making a comeback and hope this trend continues!!
